Mary Pickford (April 8, 1892 May 29, 1979) was a Canadian-born motion picture star and co-founder of United Artists, known as "America's Sweetheart" and "the girl with the curls." She was one of the pioneers of early Hollywood, a seminal figure in the history of acting, a feminist, the first great movie star, and (as her fame was established through moving images) the first great modern celebrity.
