Truman Capote, Writer. Born: 30 September 1924 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Died: 25 August 1984. Best known as author of "In Cold Blood" (1966) and "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1958). His name at birth was Truman Streckfus Persons. Capote was a successful writer whose flamboyant public persona sometimes overshadowed his literary reputation.
