A bit about Grooms, Jordan ...

Dr. Grooms was born October 21, 1912, in Greenfield, Tennessee. After graduating from high school and obtaining his teaching certificate, he taught at Lane College in Tennessee, after which he attended Bethel College, where he met his future wife, Gladys Collins, his professor. He proposed to her on their first date, and they soon married. He entered Perkins School of Theology, SMU, in 1938, while serving as associate pastor at Oak Lawn UMC, Dallas. After graduating from Perkins, he accepted an appointment as associate pastor at Amarillo Polk Street United Methodist Church. Afterwards, he served churches at Vega, Haskell, Levelland, Lamesa, Big Spring, and Hereford. He served as senior pastor of Amarillo Polk Street, 1961-1967. He was superintendent in the Brownfield District and also the Big Spring District. The final years of his ministry included serving as a dedicated Bible teacher at Life Challenge, a men’s recovery center in Amarillo. The Rev. Dr. Jordan Grooms died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, in Amarillo, at the age of 93 years (contributed to Quotations Book by his grandson David).
