Jacques-Yves Cousteau (June 11, 1910 June 25, 1997) was a French naval officer, explorer, ecologist, and researcher who studied the sea and all forms of life in water. Cousteau was born in Saint Andr de Cubzac, France and died in Paris, France. Cousteau is generally known in France as le commandant Cousteau ("Commander Cousteau").
