Matthew Abram Groening (born February 15, 1954 in Portland, Oregon) is an Emmy-winning American cartoonist and the creator of the American animated television series The Simpsons and Futurama, as well as the comic strip Life in Hell. He currently serves as a creative consultant for The Simpsons, a position he has held for over seventeen years since the show's inception in 1989.
