I do not fear computers. I fear the lack of them. Asimov, Isaac

Does Asimov mean this as it appears, or is it ironic? Or is he using the older meaning of the word, one who computes (or reasons) and thus he fears the absence of people who can think for themselves?

Well, I think it means the old definition of computers, and if not, I have to admit, I would not agree with the quote. Those two definitions are like opposites!
