It's wonderful when you give source information for the quotes. It's so rare in quote collections. Thank you! I couldn't find this quote by Bierce in The Atlantic Monthly of February 1862, but I did find it in Bierce's book The Devil's Dictionary. See http://www.gutenberg.org/files/972/972-h/972-h.htm.
