Munthe, Axel Quotes
Axel Martin Fredrik Munthe (October 31, 1857, Oskarshamn ,Sweden - February 11, 1949, Stockholm) was a Swedish doctor and physician and psychiatrist, better known as the author of The Story of San Michele (1929), an autobiographical account of his work and later life. He was born in Oskarshamn, Sweden, was a physician to the Swedish royal family, and had profitable medical practices in Rome and Paris. Retiring from public life, he set up home at the Villa San Michele on the island of Capri. In his book he also details a malady of the eye, worsened by bright sunlight, which required him to leave the sunny island of Capri and move back to his native Sweden. It is here where he recollected his life and wrote The Story of San Michele, as he explains in the foreward of the book. · Can we improve this biography or this incorrect?
