Deeping, Warwick Quotes
(George) Warwick Deeping (1877-1950) was a novelist. The author of more than 60 novels, Deeping is known best for Sorrell and Son, which was first published in 1925 to acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic. Born in the English resort of Southend-on-Sea, he followed his father and grandfather into the medical profession. However, he practised for only a short while before the success of his first novel, Uther and Igraine (an Arthurian romance) in 1903, a year after he married, enabled him to abandon doctoring in favour of writing. His early historical fiction contained sexual themes that were considered daring at the time. He returned to medicine during World War I, when he served in the Royal Army Medical Corps. He wrote later that this experience woke him from the dreams of his historical fiction and enabled him to 'dip his pen in life and extract reality'. · Can we improve this biography or this incorrect?
